2017 ECW President's Report
Greetings My Sisters and Brothers In Christ,
I am Beblon Goodloe Parks, newly elected President of Province III Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Richmond. I am a former Diocese of Virginia ECW President and currently serve as Member-at-Large for Social Justice on the National ECW Board of Directors. It is my pleasure to bring you greetings on behalf of the officers and board of Province III ECW. Our other officers are Dorothy "Dotty" Arthur, Vice President; Andrea Morgan, Secretary; Jeanne Cooper, Treasurer and Past President, Rose Longmire. Our new chaplain is the Rev. Ann Ritonia, Priest at St. John's Episcopal Church, Ellicott City, Maryland.
We are excited to be working to expand our reach by planting and/or revitalizing ECWs throughout Province III. As president, I am eager to meet and/or talk with my Province III Sisters and Brothers about ways we may work together to minister to the needs of God's people. We honor all women of the Episcopal Church, and we are not "hung up" on names. As Shakespeare’s Juliet said, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet". Whether or not the women of a parish identify themselves by the name "ECW" or call themselves something else, we reach out to and embrace them as our Sisters In Christ working to spread God's kingdom here on earth.
A new initiative we are happy to share is our outreach in the city of our Annual Meeting. Our goal is to identify and support a ministry, organization or group providing needed services.
Additionally, a practice our ECW Board has embraced is that of corporate Christian education. We are doing this by reading together the book, The Battle Plan for Prayer. We believe doing this will help bring us closer together as a board and help us follow in the steps of Jesus Christ.
In closing, I ask that you share with me the dates of upcoming events in your diocese or parish. To the extent that scheduling allows, I would love to join you! I also want to share that the Diocese of Washington will hold its Annual General Meeting of women and girls on Saturday, October 28th at 9:00 a.m.at St. John’s Olney. The theme is ‘Who Are We?” and the speaker is Rev Robin Franklin-Vaughn. EDOW President Deanne Samuels invites you to visit their website for additional information: ecw-edow.org.
Joy and Blessings to you!
Your Sister in Christ,
Beblon G. Parks
